This is my favorite cake to date....I say that about every cake I make, coincidently!  Anyway, it's all fondant work, and I made the cupcake stand using foam core, wrapping paper, and ribbon.  The cupcakes are frosted with home made butter cream frosting, and piped with a 1M swirl tip.

Amazing Cupcake Toppers

-Made by Rashida of
"Made Fresh Daily" in Atlanta-

I am amazed at these purses....Making a replica of purse to scale is one thing, but I can't even imagine how a person could pull these itty bitty purses off! If you want to see more of this designers work, visit her blog, "Made Fresh Daily."

Omg...I LOVE this buttercream frosting recipe.  I forced myself to get over the egg phobia and make it.  I've been eating for two days straight and so far I'm ok.  I'll continue to eat it to make sure though :)
Buttercream Frosting
I got this recipe from Allrecipes.com, the website I use a lot because I love to read the feedback from the people who have tried the recipes.  This one is truly as good as everyone claimed.  Great texture, easy to use, the flavor is AWESOME...If it's too thick just add a bit of milk, or if it's too thin, add more powdered sugar.  I melted it and dipped the dome's of the cupcakes into it, which creates a smooth, glossy finish.  The great thing is, even after melting it, you can re-whip it and get it right back into it's original consistency.

how to frost a cupcake
All You.com has an easy overview for frosting a cupcake.  Sounds simple, I know...but there really are quite a few different ways of doing it, and the right way, too.

I love to look at these pretty blogs that show clean, perfectly pressed dresses, worn by sweet little girls, with blonde, gleaming ringletts, and high polished matching Mary Janes....

There are beautifully appointed homes, happy mothers with beautiful aprons, smiling and cooing at their perfect little offspring, and pets that are dressed in the latest pet outfits, who don't ever shed and are always perfectly posed in their custom made dog houses.  Or castles, rather.

The party vingettes rival the likes of Martha Stewart, and would put Nate Burkus to shame.  EVERYTHING is immaculate, and appears to be  handmade, or at the very least was purchased from some fancy dance coutoure boutique, and I don't where these Stepford Godesses are, or came from, but God, do I want that life! Lol.

I'm so jealous of this other world...It's so far from the realities of my constantly chaotic world, where crumbs accumulate by the minute, dog hair lines the corners of every wall, (despite my daily vacuuming war) the children are far from clean, and are definitely not wearing anything that would even remotely pass for couture.

Anyway, thank you to Kara's Party Ideas, who shared these images on her blog, and has given me aspirations for a more Martha-like world,  one where all is perfect, the house is always clean, and I have a  personal photographer following me through my beautiful, hand crafted, picture book life.

-Behind The Scenes of a Cake Kitchen-

I get a lot of questions about how I've decorated my cakes, especially the cakes made with fondant.  I thought I'd do a little "behind the scenes" action, to show some of the different elements that go into making a specialty cake.

Here, I'm adding slices of black fondant to create a zebra print.
Home Made Marshmallow Fondant
Here is what fondant starts out as....A blob of sweet play dough, basically.
Fondant ribbon cake toppers
These are the individual parts that go together to create a ribbon for the top of a cake. While they dry I move on to another of the cake.
Covering a cake in fondant
Here is a cake in the process of being covered with fondant.

These are curlycue's I make with fondant. I'll poke them up out of a ribbon or something like that....lol. They look really cute though.

This is the beginning phase of a purse cake. I'm almost done smoothing the fondant over the sculpted cake.
Fondant decorations
Here are all the different parts that go on the cake below to create the circles and dots.
Decorating fondant cake
Now I'm just placing the different circles on the cake.

This is my 9 year old daughter, decorating cupcakes with gum paste flowers. She's very good at it and does a lot of flowers for me when I'm in a crunch.

Here are some more gum paste flowers drying...In the picture you can see a shaping tool, a dusting bag filled with corn starch that keeps the gum paste from sticking, a rollers, and a bunch of flower stamens

Cupcake Bakeshop by Chockylit....first of all, isn't this name great?  I think it's so catchy.  Secondly, this beautiful  Cherry Bomb with Meringue Frosting is one of the Cupcake Bakeshop's many awesome recipes.  Third, and lastly, I find the word Meringue to be one of the most impossible words to spell, and if my life depended on it's proper spelling, I would wouldn't even bother trying.  I'd just start digging a hole!  Anyway...Isn't this cupcake fabulous?  You simply have to check out the recipe.  I think you'll be in for a surprise!
